Cadworks takes top Innovation Award at British Council for Offices’ Scottish Awards

Cadworks, Scotland’s most sustainable office development and its first Net Zero office, has been awarded the BCO’s top ‘Innovation Award’ and also has been ‘Highly Commended’ as a commercial workplace.

Cadworks took the coveted award for Innovation at the annual British Council for Offices’ (BCO) Regional Awards on 13 May. It was recognised as one of the highest quality, forward-thinking and futureproofed developments in Scotland, setting the standard for excellence in the office sector.

The BCO judging panel commented that Cadworks demonstrates that Grade ‘A’ office space can be fully sustainable and innovative. They were also inspired by FORE Partnership’s commitment as a B Corp to ethical and sustainable practices, including material procurement from floor to ceiling.

Net Zero Carbon in operation, Cadworks was designed and built with environmental sustainability and social impact at its heart. Extending to 94,000 sq. ft of Grade A column-free space over 10 floors, with a basement dedicated to welfare space for tenants and cyclists, FORE has left each floor of the building as shell and core to enable tenants to fit-out the space as desired without wasting resources.

Achieving an EPC rating of A and BREEAM Excellent, the building makes extensive use of concrete that has no cement, steel with 80% or more recycled content, and glazing with a minimum of 56% recycled content. Continuing to hold sustainability at its core, the small number of car spaces provided are equipped with high-speed EV charging and dedicated to car sharing, and Airlite paint has been used throughout, which converts humidity in the air to an ionised shield, neutralising pollutants.

The building features an ‘urban village hall’ and was used extensively during COP26 to host many events.

Basil Demeroutis, managing partner, FORE, said: “To have been presented with the BCO’s Innovation Award is a true recognition of the consideration and thought that has been put into the design and build of Cadworks. We have used new and ground-breaking technology to create a highly advanced office, from sensors that measure air quality to an app that allows tenants and building managers to interact with the building. We are delighted to accept this award and also to welcome our flagship tenants to the building where they can experience our innovative thinking themselves.”

Cadworks will now compete with other regional winners at the BCO National Awards in October 2022. For more information on the awards and applications, visit the BCO website (www.bco.org.uk).
